In this exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Zathura Robot, you can see an under-the-floor rod puppet, the beginning shot of the robot sequence. Zathura marks the first time Stan Winston Studio teamed up with director Jon Favreau, a huge fan of in-camera, old-style filmmaking techniques. "Favreau came to us," recalled Shane Mahan, "and said: 'Look, I'm a fan of effects movies, but I don't like the way digital stuff looks. It always looks artificial to me, and it takes me out of
